Trying to have the best, yet budget-friendly Disney vacation means knowing all that you can know before your trip and finding the path of least resistance; In terms of both financials and effort.
Being a DVC member, I keep my vacation cost low by taking advantage of Disney’s free transportation options and using Uber when that’s not an option.
Let’s go through Disney transportation options to make sure you’re fully informed and can spend the least amount of cash possible.
I use Uber the most when I’m at Disney.
Uber is an inexpensive, safe, and convenient taxi service. It’s on-demand private drivers for a low price.
When I’m at Disney World I use Uber the most to get to Univeral (huge Harry Potter fan), where the average trip is $15-$25.
Uber can be used at all Disney World parks and within resorts.
Mears is the official taxi of Disney World but Uber is about a third of their prices.
Disney’s Magical Express
Disney’s Magical Express, (DME) is a free bus system from Orlando International Airport to your Disney Resort.
This option is only for those staying at a Disney owned/operated resort.
Nothing is better than getting on this comfy, yet super Disneyfied bus after your flight to MCO and relaxing all the way to your resort.
The buses are equipped with reclining seats, TVs, trivia, and more!
DME is not automatically added to your reservation.
Disney’s Transportation System
Bus, water taxi, and monorail transportation from Disney resorts to other Disney locations such as theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs.
All Disney owned resorts have a bus system. Some, like the All-Star resorts, share a buses..
This is the biggest portion of Disney’s transportation system and the most used. The boat rides are great for getting around but are also fun to just sit and enjoy.
Each resort offers a different variety of transportation options.

Once you know what resort you will be staying at, make sure to do some research on the route, stops, and the time it takes to get to your destination.
Having your own vehicle at Disney World definitely has it’s perks. When everything lines up correctly, there’s no reason not to have a car.
Rental Car Justifications
- You’re driving to Disney World so you’ll have your own car.
- You get a rate under $100 for 7 days and you have a credit card that offers car rental protection.
With all of the options we discussed above, most of which are free, renting a car seems less and less wise.
